Creativity, accountability, integrity, and genuine care for others are values that have allowed P.B. Bell to grow together and maintain an atmosphere of recognition and gratitude. There are many ways we choose to show our employees just how important they are to us and we know there isn’t a one size fits all approach for showing we care, but we try our best to find ways to do so that everyone will appreciate. Having a strong company culture where employees feel valued means greater retention and a sense of pride and loyalty in our company which is a win-win.

Whether it’s sharing a persons’ or teams’ achievements in a company email blast, sending a quick note (handwritten or via email) thanking someone for going above and beyond, or putting together a quick video welcoming new employees’ company-wide and sending them a special onboarding gift, there are plenty of simple but impactful ways to make it clear you’re thinking of someone and that you’re happy they’re a part of the team.
We have a program called “Values in Action” where we encourage our employees to nominate each other for going above and beyond. Then, we make sure to acknowledge and share those submissions with all of our employees. Those nominated also get their name put into a year-end raffle to win $1,000. Sharing and celebrating wins and happy moments out loud with all of our team members has been monumental. How you make people feel matters and it leaves a lasting impression which is one reason our company culture is so strong.
Our onsite leasing teams are absolute superstars and we want to show them off! To highlight our incredible leasing teams, we feature one member of our onsite leasing teams each week in a Leasing Superstars spotlight on our social media accounts. These employee spotlights feature their picture and a quick Q&A with questions such as “What’s the best part of your job?”, “What is one thing you love about your apartment community?”, “What is the best piece of advice you have been given?” and more so we can recognize our employees and so others can learn a little bit more about the people that truly make P.B. Bell all that it is. Something like this can be done for your employees, not just the leasing team. Consider recognizing your maintenance and corporate employees, or anyone else who makes up your team.
Employee Appreciation Events
Another great way we recognize our employees for all of their hard work is by getting together and hosting some fun events. Although events may look a little different these days, there are still a number of ways you can get creative to make team members feel valued. It could be as simple as bringing coffee and donuts to your morning huddle. This year we hosted a Zoom holiday party instead of our normal in-person celebration with catered lunch at an exciting location. Pay attention to upcoming national holidays and observances that you can tie into your employee appreciation event. At P.B. Bell, employee appreciation events include celebrating an anniversary or achievement with a team lunch, or taking an afternoon off of work to bond with our teams at places like Top Golf and Board and Brush.
We also celebrate Apartment Onsite Team Day and Maintenance Appreciation Week every year. For these special days, we do something unique each day of the week to commemorate our onsite teams. Small Employee Appreciation Gifts
Small acts of kindness can make a big difference! We’ve learned how important it is to go out of your way to show people you care, and company swag and employee gifts are a great way to do this. There are many small employee appreciation gifts that can really go a long way in making team members feel special. At P.B. Bell, we love finding thoughtful and useful items to gift our employees.
