A Day in the Life of Yvonne Torres, Assistant Manager at Noria

From overseeing daily operations to resident events, the assistant manager plays a critical role caring for their community and residents. We connected with Yvonne Torres, Assistant Manager at Noria Robson Luxury Apartments, to learn about her day-to-day tasks as well as things she enjoys most, both at work and in her free time.

What does a typical day look like for you?
I begin each day by reading through emails. It’s important for me to be up to speed on what happened the night before, as well as pending move-ins.

Additionally, I make sure that every work order has been issued, that all tenants and staff have been taken care of, and I’ve completed any follow-ups. As assistant manager, my goal is to have a full property update for the community manager, so we can plan our day accordingly.

I also make it a priority to touch base and say hello to everyone working at the property. Typically, within the first half hour, I’ve talked to housekeeping, the maintenance supervisor and all the maintenance staff. My job is centered around communication!

How long have you been working at P.B. Bell?
On January 10th, I celebrated 10 years at P.B. Bell. Over the past decade, I’ve had the opportunity to do and learn so much, including leasing at various properties, managing teams and projects, organizing resident events, property due diligence and so much more. No day is the same and I love having variety in my life, which is probably why I’ve been doing this for 10 years.

What is your favorite memory from P.B. Bell?

Celebrating the various holidays throughout the year with our residents! Our team enjoys decorating, dressing up and making these events extra special. Last Halloween, we created a haunted house and hosted a trunk or treat event just for residents. It was a ton of fun! I dressed up as part of the Hocus Pocus trio.

What do you enjoy most about your role?
As an assistant manager, I love that I get to do leasing and community management, which is one of my strengths. Our property is beautiful, but there are many other beautiful apartments around us. Ensuring our residents are happy and our property is kept in pristine condition are my primary goals.

I love the multifamily industry, and I think if you asked me to pick just one thing… I don’t think there’s just one. I love how versatile it is; it’s the same, and it’s never the same. I love the dynamics as well as the sales part of it. But more than anything, I love the numbers, because they speak loudly.

I also work with an incredible team. Our manager, housekeeper, leasing, maintenance, everybody— we have very strong, vibrant personalities and all care very much about our residents and community.

What is one fun fact about you?

I am a huge Frida Kahlo fan — I’m a Fridita! I am in love with Frida Kahlo, and I am learning how to play violin right now (one of her many gifts). I am also learning to speak Nahuatl, which is a very ancient Mexican language. Everyone that knows me knows I always get Frida Kahlo stuff: buttons, books, everything. I even have one dog named Frida and another named Diego! My next goal when I visit Mexico City is to see her home in Coyoacan.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
I’m a homebody and I love to cook. I make my own corn tortillas with every meal. I’m an avid coffee drinker. When I’m not on-site, I’m usually watching some kind of documentary, learning something about the market and current news, learning violin, reading something about Frida, or playing with my dogs.

What is your favorite thing to do in Arizona?
I love tanning in the hot weather; I’m the one who won’t go swimming until it’s 105 degrees or hotter. Before I broke my leg, I used to hike a lot around all the local trails – not too high, nothing scary.

What is your favorite restaurant(s)?
My favorite is La Ristra in Downtown Chandler, and I also love Ghost Ranch. If you go to Ghost Ranch, try their penny mimosas for Brunch Sundays, and if you have a pet, you can take your pet with you on the patio. They’re super friendly and chill.

What is your life motto and/or words to live by?
If you must do something, just do it. There’s no waiting; don’t think about it. I find my days more productive when I get things done as quickly as possible, rather than procrastinating.
