Our P.B. Bell communities would not function smoothly without the help of our maintenance teams. Within these crews are the maintenance supervisors, who help with everything including renovations, cleaning the pool area, maintenance requests inside resident units, and more. With a strong work ethic, these individuals help ensure every community is clean and cared for.
Meet Brian Hersel — the maintenance supervisor at Miramonte in Scottsdale. Brian has worked at P.B. Bell for almost 8 years. Learn more about him and his role here:
What does a typical day look like?
Each morning, I’ll walk around the property and clean up anything that is out of place – we call this ground work. This includes cleaning the pool and straightening up the community. If the team is showing a specific unit to a prospective resident, then I’ll open it for them and make sure everything looks good. I also do a lot of renovations. Since we’re a small team, we allocate specific times to help the residents with maintenance requests.
What is a favorite memory of working at P.B. Bell?
Every day at P.B. Bell I have a ton of fun because I work with a lot of great people. My favorite memory is our St. Mary’s volunteer event. It was the first time I had ever gone. We filled boxes while listening to music and a lot of us were singing and dancing along. It was great because we got to see everyone outside of their normal roles at the property. We also went up to Westworld this year to check people in for their COVID vaccinations. I got to speak with so many people, much like how we do at P.B. Bell!
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I like being on a small property because you get to know everyone really well. The residents show their appreciation which is nice because many of them have been here the whole time we have been here. When issues arise, residents are appreciative of what I am doing.
What is one fun fact about you?
I am a Batman fanatic. People are always gifting me figurines and shirts, in fact I have a 4-foot tall figurine in my apartment! I love the old movie posters too. I haven’t bought anything in a while but my collection keeps growing because people keep giving me items. When the original batmobile was bought by someone in Arizona, a resident who knew me told me about it and I got to take pictures with it.
What is your favorite thing to do in Arizona?
I love being outdoors. We have such amazing weather, especially during this time of year. I also love going to First Fridays in downtown Phoenix, hiking, riding my motorcycle, and visiting Sedona and Flagstaff.
I’m also a huge foodie. Anytime someone recommends a place to me, I’ll make time for it. There’s a lot of great hole-in-the-wall places here but my favorite is Pho Cao in Scottsdale. They have karaoke at night and live bands. It’s a very small knit group with only three chefs, much like our P.B. Bell team here at Miramonte.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
I am a golf fanatic. I play year round and play two or three times a week. During COVID times, golf was all we could do so it encouraged me to do it more often. I also work out a lot which helps me with my job. In my free time, I enjoy watching movies.
What is your life motto?
I learned a lot about life by being in this industry. I talked to a guy years ago and he said that he wished he lived his life more like me because I simply choose to be happy. There are all kinds of ways to look at the world. However, you have one choice to make everyday, and you can choose to make the most out of it and be happy!
Brian, thank you for adding humor and happiness to the P.B. Bell team! We are so thankful for all the work you do and for the joy you bring with you every day.
