Benefits of Art in a Multifamily Community

Utilizing art in multifamily design can create a “wow” factor for residents and prospective residents alike. When done right, art can be seamlessly integrated throughout a multifamily community to accentuate the theme and overall experience. Lawrence Lake Interiors, a boutique interior design firm that specializes in multifamily projects, shares its top tips to harmoniously blend art throughout a multifamily community.

Consider the Scale

When it comes to art, individuals tend to shy away from bigger statement pieces and end up buying art that is too small. Don’t be afraid to go big when utilizing art in multifamily design! If you have a couch against a wall with a giant blank space above it, fill it with a big piece of modern, abstract art to make it a focal point of the room.

Another trend is to go really small with the art. It really depends on how much space you have to work with and the feeling that you are trying to evoke with your art. If you want to make a big statement, go big. If you want a more subtle feel, go with smaller pieces.

Art as Instagrammable Moments

A big trend right now in multifamily design is to utilize art to create Instagrammable, interactive experiences. For Kalon Luxury Apartments in Phoenix, we are creating a menagerie of colorful and fun 3D animal sculptures. There will also be a four-foot orange bull dog in the lobby. Our goal is to give residents something unique and unforgettable — ultimately, we want to make people smile too.

At the Landing at Fiesta Village in Mesa, there are Wheel-of-Fortune style blocks with words about the neighborhood on them where residents can rotate the blocks to create different phrases and looks. Another great example of interactive art in multifamily design includes the Hangar at Thunderbird in Glendale, where there is going to be a turbo jet wing in the lobby that residents and visitors can stand in front of to take pictures with.

There are numerous benefits to art integration in a multifamily community. With immersive and experiential art, these pieces often act as a form of marketing for the community as well.

Integrating art in multifamily design can elevate a community’s overall look and feel. Don’t be afraid to play around with big and small pieces or think outside of the box with immersive art. By seamlessly integrating art throughout a community, you can give residents and visitors a memorable experience and will make the space feel more like home.
