2020 is finally here and with the New Year comes countless opportunities to explore all the different restaurants, top destinations and attractions that the Valley has to offer. If one of your New Year’s resolutions includes trying new places and things but you don’t know where to start, don’t fret. Whether you’re with family, friends or just want to enjoy the day solo — here are our top five places to try out this New Year, if you haven’t had the chance to yet:
Medieval Times
You don’t have to be royalty to dine like a king. At Medieval Times you get to feast on roasted chicken with your bare hands, wear paper crowns, drink out of goblets and cheer on the finest knights in the land as they fight to the death. This iconic family-friendly dinner and a show franchise is set in a medieval castle located in North Scottsdale — the castle even features a moat and drawbridge to add to the attraction. Attendees can enjoy a delicious four-course meal while observing an array of impressive performances including falconry, jousting and choreographed equestrian performances.
i.d.e.a. Museum
Inspire creativity and out-of-the-box thinking at the i.d.e.a. Museum. Located in Mesa, this museum features fun activities and exhibits for all ages and encourages attendees to look at the world differently through art and imagination. Multi-sensory and hands-on experiences allows children and parents alike to expand their creativity, as well as grow their knowledge through science and engineering.
Cobra Bar
If you’re looking for a fun and unique night out, look no further than downtown Phoenix’s Cobra Bar. With more than 35 vintage video games and pinball machines, this innovative bar is a must-stop for those bar hopping throughout the city. To top it off, the bar has an abundance of creative cocktails and craft beers to sip on while you play.
Topo
This roadside restaurant is a must-try for those exploring Gilbert’s Heritage District. Topped with a giant gopher, Topo features a tasty selection of burritos, street corn and soft serve. Feel like trying something new? Try the prickly pear soft serve — you will not be disappointed.
Lost Dog Wash Trail at McDowell Mountains
If one of your New Year’s Resolutions includes going on more hikes, be sure to check the Lost Dog Wash Trail off of your list. Located near Scottsdale, this award-winning trailhead offers a variety of shorter and easier trails that allow hikers to explore the natural desert wash and its surroundings. To top it off, the wash attracts an abundance of desert wildlife so be sure to bring binoculars and keep your eyes peeled for a variety of birds, javelina, coyotes and more.
